Movie Quiz: Pride and Prejudice 2005
I am an unabashed fan of the 2005 Joe Wright movie version of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. This movie was my introduction to Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet, and all the others, so without a doubt this colors my opinion. I have seen several of the other adaptations, enjoying them to varying degrees and appreciating the different actors and interpretations; however, this movie has remained my favorite. I suspect it always will! Matthew Macfadyen IS Mr. Darcy, and I adore Keira Knightley as Elizabeth. Indeed I could go on and on giving the numerous reasons this movie is perfect to me. Another time, perhaps!
This post is all about having fun. The 15 questions below are based on one’s knowledge of the 2005 movie. Knowledge of the novel or familiarity with the 1995 miniseries will provide some answers, but I am looking for fanatics like me!
1. What does Mr. Darcy say at the Meryton Assembly, overheard by Lizzy, that sets the misunderstandings on their way?
2. Mrs. Bennet is sure Jane will not die from her cold, but what does Lizzy think may cause her to perish?
3. Who says, “There is plenty of time to get to know them after we are married.”?
4. How old was Georgiana Darcy when she was seduced by Mr. Wickham?
5. How is Colonel Fitzwilliam related to Mr. Darcy? Do we know this in the movie? Do we know his first name?
6. “But he’s ridiculous!” Who is ridiculous? And who says this and to whom is it said?
7. “Perhaps he’s changed his mind.” Who says this? About whom? When?
8. What are the traits of an “accomplished woman” according to Miss Bingley? And what does Darcy think necessary to be truly accomplished?
9. Mr. Wickham is the son of what important positioned person to the Pemberley estate? What is Mr. Wickham’s military rank?
10. Who has the talent of flattering with such delicacy, as pointed out by whom?
11. “I shall have a seizure! I am sure I shall!” Who says this and what prompts the reaction?
12. What did Lizzy want in marriage, the reason she thought she would “remain an old maid”?
13. Whose lecturing advice on practicing, addressed to this person, was apparently taken to heart by Mr. Darcy?
14. What does Darcy whisper during the horrendous first proposal, just as he almost kisses Lizzy?
15. What four endearments does Lizzy allow her new husband to call her, and when?
Great answers Megan. There’s a date? It still says coming soon down below? When is it so I can hold my finger over the buy with one click button?
He says please? Seriously, I’ll have to watch it again too! I thought I had it memorized! Love to know other’s crazy as me!
So anxious to see a date instead of “coming soon” on the new book!
Megan is spot on, but 14 might be when he whispered, ‘please’?
YEP! That is what I was going for with question #14! Although, Megan perfectly quoted the longer statement from the proposal scene, so props to her!!
How have I never noticed that! Better go rewatch the entire movie again 😉
I agree with Megan. I think I’ve seen it too many times when I can hear the dialog rolling on a movie screen in my head. LOL Great answers Megan!
Ah, Shucks! You beat me to it!
I watched this one again last evening.
This movie was my introduction to Jane Austen! I’d never read the books when I saw it and now I’ve seen it I don’t know how many times
1. She is tolerable I daresay, but not handsome enough to tempt me.
2. The shame of having such a mother!
3. Charlotte Lucas
4. 15
5. His cousin, his first name is never stated
6. Lizzy says this to Charlotte about Mr Collins when Charlotte tells her about their engagement
7. I think Kitty says this (it’s kinda dark) when Lady Catherine comes knocking on the door late at night but Kitty thinks it might be Mr Bingley changing his mind about his engagement to Jane.
8. Oh gosh, I know she says you have to be good at singing, playing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages to deserve the word? I feel like there’s more but can’t remember! And I remember Darcy saying a woman must improve her mind by extensive reading, and looks down at Lizzy’s book which she proceeds to slam shut. Ha!
9. George Whickam is the son of the late Mr Darcy’s Steward. He is a lieutenant … when he looks at Lizzy and says “an enchanted lieutenant” and she blushes and we all scream “NO LIZZY NOOO!!!”
10. Mr Bennet points out to Mr Collins how fortunate he is to have the talent of flattering with such delicacy.
11. Mrs Bennet says this (who else, really) when they see Mr Bingley walking up to the house. Such a great scene.
12. “Only the deepest love will persuade me into matrimony which is why I will end up an old maid”
13. Lady Catherine lectured Charlotte (I guess more properly at this point Mrs Collins) that the only way she will be good at the piano is if she practices. Lizzy then reiterates his aunts advice to him.
14. “Forgive me, Madame, for taking up so much of your time”
That line will be etched into my brain for all eternity, probably.
15 “Lizzy, for everyday; My pearl, for Sundays; and Goddess Divine, but only on very special occasions”
“And what shall I call you when I’m cross, Mrs Darcy?”
“No! No. You may only call me Mrs Darcy when you are completely, perfectly, and incandescently happy”
Alright well I think we can agree I’ve seen this movie way to much since I can probably quote the whole thing by heart
