Lovely post, thank you for a trip down memory lane. When I was a kid we did all that = the crib (nativity scene) went up in Advent and we added a figure every day until Baby Jesus went in after we were all in bed on Christmas Eve. The tree went up two or three days before Christmas. The three wise men arrived in the crib on January 6th, and then the tree, the crib and the decorations came down on 7th Jan. Happy days. We still keep to the approximate timeframe but no so religiously! My kids love it, especially adding the figures to the crib. Keeps Christmas a bit special.

Lovely post! Thanks, Sharon. I really wish Twelfth Night was still kept as it used to be, before the Victorians came in and spoiled all the fun of this too!

I feel like I’m missing out now with our less rich and colorful version. Happy Epiphany Day, Sharon! 😉

I am from New Orleans and January 6th is the first day of Mardi Gras season with the parades and Mardi Gras balls beginning today. Throw me something, Mister!

Isn’t the New Orleans ‘king cake’ originally part of Three Kings Day or epiphany? I know now it use used for all sorts of celebrations (a tradition I heartily endorse) but I think it originates there. It is very like the Norwegian Kringle’.

Hi Sharon,
Our “3 Kings Day” started this morning with the children opening their 1 gift and then we will have a special dinner tonight, which we will eat in the dining room, Our dining room gets used for special occasions and company. Today is a holiday in our house and we will play games and have fun. I noticed that even Hallmark had this day on their list of Holidays. Hopefully this day will become more well known and celebrated. Thank you for featuring it on your blog. Happy Epiphany to you and your family.
