Mr. Darcy was my Christmas gift in 2020
Did that title grab your attention? I bet it did! A tad misleading, I admit, as THE Mr. Darcy didn’t magically coalesce into a flesh and blood human, nor did Matthew Macfadyen pop into Bardstown for the Christmas holiday. Bummer indeed, but I did receive the next best thing thanks to the amazing thoughtfulness from my son Kyle and daughter-in-law Serena. Obviously they know me very well, yet even knowing how they manage to always gift me the perfect treasures, I was absolutely stunned speechless when I opened their present. Take a look….
All the way from England, the official Mr. Darcy marble bust is an exact scaled replica of the bust used in the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (which remains on display at Chatsworth in Derbyshire). Anyone can obtain one for a reasonably priced £55 (roughly $76) at MarbleSculpture.com
It didn’t take me too long to decide the perfect location to display Mr. Darcy. In my office, of course, on the corner of my wall-to-wall desk so I can glance to the left and see him. This corner is my most sentimental and special area as it is below the shelf dedicated to my departed mom and dad.
Below is a closeup of the bust sitting atop a doily crocheted by my mom and beside a special photo of me with daughter Emily dressed as Regency ladies.
Not so sure even my clever son and wife will be able to top this awesome gift come Christmas 2021, but then again, they never fail to dazzle. Yes, I am blessed… and I don’t just mean the bust.
Sharon, I’m all astonishment! You raised your son well!
LOL! We did try! He is a great man and his wife is very happy (4 years married now) so that is what matters most. 🙂
Awesome present! What a thoughtful son you have!
My kids are the best, and married well too, so we are quite blessed. 🙂
That was a fantastic Christmas gift! They really put the thought into what to get you. How unique and just perfect!
Kyle and Serena are incredible at picking something fabulous. Another Christmas they got me a bracelet with the “You’ve bewitched me…” quote inscribed. My daughter Emily is equally as fabulous finding special gifts. It’s a talent I’ve never had, so they get it from their father, who is far more romantic than me. LOL!
Great present!
Love it, I was thinking of getting one too, I live in Lancashire, not too far from Chatsworth in Derbyshire and I already have the veiled lady bust they also sell which is stunning but a bit larger than Mr Darcy.
Oh wow! I never checked to see if there were miniatures of the other statues! Probably afraid I’d have to buy them all. Might just drop a subtle hint to my son and DIL…. 😉
What a lovely gift and seems like a great location for it.
I won’t admit how often each day I glance over and smile at him… but it is a bit more than a few. LOL!!
How lucky you are! Just gorgeous! And no sign telling you not to kiss him! 🙂
LOL! I limit the kisses to just that one time… don’t want to mar the marble surface. HaHa!
