Wishing y’all a Merry Christmas!

Wishing y’all a Merry Christmas!

The First Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
in fields as they lay;
In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

“The greatest and most momentous fact which the history of the world records is the fact of Christ’s birth.” Charles H. Spurgeon

Mr. Darcy sends you all the love in the world that he can spare from me. You are all to come to Pemberley at Christmas. Elizabeth Bennet, Pride & Prejudice

“But I am sure that I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round… as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely.” Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.” Laura Ingalls Wilder

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Good news from heaven the angels bring,
Glad tidings to the earth they sing:
To us this day a child is given,
To crown us with the joy of heaven.
Martin Luther

Mickey“The very purpose of Christ’s coming into the world was that He might offer up His life as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He came to die. This is the heart of Christmas.” Reverend Billy Graham

“Heap on the wood! – the wind is chill; But let it whistle as it will, We’ll keep our Christmas merry still.” Sir Walter Scott

“Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.” Washington Irving

“The only blind person at Christmastime is he who has not Christmas in his heart.” Helen Keller

“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.” Andy Rooney

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring – not even a mouse:
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
Clement C. Moore

Santa and animals

This awesome poem is a twist on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, written by my friend Marilyn Brant as a fun tweak for Austen Authors. I love it!

Holiday Man‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the blog
Several AuAus were sipping a glass of eggnog,
Staring thoughtfully at manuscript pages galore,
Hoping their latest scenes would not be a bore.

Their children, their spouses, their pets were asleep
But, pen in hand, they had reader promises to keep.
Would Brother Theo succeed in turning Lizzy’s head?
Or would it be Darcy who’d win her instead?

And what of Georgiana? Or Kitty? Or Mary?
What would happen with the Collinses? Or with Colonel Denny?
And let’s not forget Jane’s other five books
That AuAus like to rewrite with clever new hooks.
Oh, Emma! Oh, Knightley! Dear Wentworth and Anne!

No character was safe from their cunning narrative plans.

Soon the 200th year of P&P would be at an end
And the AuAus would embark on fresh ventures to mend
The broken hearts of new lovers, battling joy vs. grief,
Praying beloved readers will sigh in relief
When everyone who should be together at last
Is, indeed, with a soul mate who is perfectly cast.

And, so, with a nod and a wink at St. Nick,
The AuAus asked the good man for one writerly trick:
May every story have humor, keen plotting and insight…
And Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
