Vicky Dreiling celebrating a NEW RELEASE!

Today it is my great pleasure to welcome Vicky Dreiling, a wonderful Regency romance writer I am fortunate to be friends with. Thanks RWA and the Beau Monde! Coming to us from the great state of Texas, Vicky is celebrating a new release in her “Fan Named How To” series — What a Devilish Duke Desires — and along with an interview, Vicky is offering TWO copies as a giveaway. Whoot!

Let’s welcome Vicky Dreiling with a round of applause! Take it away, Vicky!!

vicky-dreilingTriple RITA finalist Vicky Dreiling is a confirmed historical romance junkie and Anglophile. Frequent business trips to the UK allowed her to indulge her passion for all things Regency England. Bath, Stonehenge, and Spencer House are among her favorite places. She is, however, truly sorry for accidentally setting off a security alarm in Windsor Castle. That unfortunate incident led her British colleagues to nickname her “Trouble.”

Vicky is a native Texan and holds degrees in English literature and marketing.

~ What a Devilish Duke Desires ~

Harry Norcliffe never wanted to inherit his beloved uncle’s title. The rigidity of the ton, the incessant reminders from his marriage-minded mama that he must settle down with a highborn lady and produce an heir and a spare: it’s all such a dreadful bore. So when his mother asks him to take part in a dancing competition, he patently refuses. The last thing he needs is another chore . . . until a beautiful, brilliant, delightfully tempting maid makes him rethink his position.

Most women would be over the moon to be pursued by a wickedly handsome-not to mention wealthy-duke like Norcliffe. But Lucy will not be any man’s trophy. She could use a friend, though, and what begins innocently soon ignites into desire. As Lucy tries to resist Harry’s scorching kisses, he makes an utterly irresistible offer. Enter the dance contest with him, and win a prize that could change her life forever . . . if falling in love doesn’t change it first.

~ An Interview with Vicky Dreiling ~

What are your favorite books to read?
Clearly I love historical romance, and I also read contemporary romance. I love Jill Shalvis’s books. I read other genres such as Young Adult, New Adult, and suspense occasionally. I’m a big fan of Jodi Picoult, too. One of my recent top favorites is Gayle Forman’s IF I STAY. It’s riveting. I loved the way she used time as a device.

If you could live anywhere in the world besides where you now reside, where would it be?

Do you have a “day job” other than writing? If not currently, what “day jobs” have you had in the past?
I worked in marketing for a Fortune 500 company for ten years.

Do you have a favorite place you have traveled to? Or perhaps a place you long to visit?
I traveled a lot for business and love London. My favorite place there is Spencer House. My favorite place in Paris is the musee d’orsay where the impressionist paintings are housed.

Do you have a favorite quote or inspirational saying?
You must do the things you think you cannot do ~ Eleanor Roosevelt.

Do you have any phobias?
I’m terrified of heights.

Do you have any other artistic skills besides writing?
Oddly, I started writing in diaries when I was only ten years old. I really can’t explain my compulsion to write.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
There are many, but I was actually very late to the reception for RITA and Golden Heart finalists in 2012.

Tell us about the genre you have chosen to write in and why you are drawn to it.
I famously picked up my first romance ALMOST HEAVEN by Judith McNaught by accident in a supermarket. My daughter who was a preschooler at the time took off running. I dropped the book in the basket and forgot about it at the checkout stand. For some reason I was too embarrassed to ask the clerk to put it back. After I got home and put my daughter down for a nap, I started reading the book. I’ve been hooked on historical romance ever since.

Was the first book you wrote published, or is it still lying in forgotten shame under your bed?
I wrote my first book many years ago. I entered tons of contests and somehow managed to win all but one. That book was a Golden Heart Finalist. The problem? I wrote a great three chapters, but the rest of the book fell apart. I was sad when it got rejected, but I took time out to work on craft and published my second book.

Have you learned to deal with the negativity, especially in reviews, or does it still bother you?
I just ignore negative reviews. Most of us get them. My advice is not to read them if it messes with your head.

Are there certain “must haves” to get the muse properly inspired?
Yes – deadlines!

Tell us what is next on your writer’s agenda.
That’s a secret. *wink

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am intrigued!
Fortunately for us, until Vicky reveals the secret of what is next up for her,
we have these fine novels to satisfy. Now be sure to chat with Vicky for a chance to win her latest novel!
