I do love gingerbread but I THINK I would draw the line at this piece? Fortunately we don’t seem to have those long lasting freezing winters nowadays! I know as a child our windows used to be completely covered with ice patterns in a morning, I used to get out of bed and attempt to jump from one rag rug to the next (I used to love helping Mum to make those, any unwearable clothing was cut up to use). Mum used to put my clothes before the small electric fire so I could dress there ready for school. I loved weekends when we were at home and the fire could be lit early!
I do wonder if there would be Frost Fairs nowadays if ever the Thames did freeze? I suppose there would always be somebody to take advantage (hopefully a gingerbread baker!)
