Love Sealed With a Ring

Love Sealed With a Ring

This Monday and next I’ll continue the wedding history trend of the past five weeks with addendum posts, as it were. Next week I’ll relate the origins of wedding cake traditions. Today I am covering engagement and wedding ring symbolism. Because I had so many images to share and wanted the information to be fun, I created a power point slideshow. After it was all said and done, the best option visually was a PDF that would open big.

Click on the image below… or the title link underneath… to open the PDF. I should note that all the images of rings (except the one  on the title slide and a couple of others that will be obvious) are designated “wedding” or “engagement” rings dated officially by experts to the time period noted.

  1. That was most interesting. I loved seeing Napelon and Josephine’s engagement ring and was surprised how far back the tradition does go. Thank you Sharon

  2. I love jewelry especially rings. I also like historical facts. So I had to stop by and read the information. The rings are beautiful. Love the one for Napoleon and Josephine. Couldn’t believe the Puritans chose to wear thimbles. So interesting. Thanks for all the time you’ve put in here.

  3. Thank you Sharon. I enjoy history so the history of the wedding ring was a real treat. I like how you added the acrostic ring with dearest so we can visualize what Darcy gave Lizzy. My husband and I exchanged posy rings but didn’t know what they were called until you posted this. we just knew we want the wedding rings inscribed. Enjoyed this post with visualizations immensely.

I love to hear from you!
