Seriously, I thought I was the only person in the world who fell in love with “Carrie Pilby” after watching it on Netflix. It sat in my queue for a long time and when I finally watched it, I was completely in love. I laughed and even cried (a little). And then I watched it again. It’s such a quiet movie (in a way) that I found myself playing it late at night and it lulled me right to sleep. When I got rid of Netflix I bought the DVD because I didn’t want to be without access to the movie.
I did read the book, but I’ll get to that in a minute. As for the movie, I don’t really know what drew me to it.I am nothing at all like Carrie. I am hardly a prodigy of anything, but I found myself wanting to be friends with her and knowing that I’d have to work hard for her to accept me. I was also extremely jealous of her job as a proofreader. I’m currently going to school majoring in Creative Writing and a job as a proofreader sounds amazing. I liked that it was a graveyard shift job because I am such a night owl!
I loved every performance and seeing Jason Ritter was a wonderful surprise.
Like I said I read the book about two years ago and since it’s hard to find at the library, I bought a copy online because I’m going to try to read it again. The problem with my reading books after I’ve seen the movie is that I want them to be exactly like the movie and vice versa. I was afraid that reading the book might ruin the movie for me, but thankfully that didn’t happen. The book was ok; I like the movie better but it did fill in some gaps (like the flashbacks that Carrie has about her Harvard professor; that was totally confusing to me the first time I saw the movie). I’m looking forward to reading it again, though.
It’s so nice to find someone who loves “Carrie Pilby” too!

I actually saw this at TIFF when it premiered. Awesome film and in my list to watch again on Netflix.
