SYNOPSIS ~

The third volume of the Saga prologues the drama, history, and romance with a chapter summing up the previous events through the eyes and pen of Dr. George Darcy.

It is now September as the Darcys approach one year of wedded bliss and the birth of their first child. Friends and family continue to play a huge part of their lives, but the emphasis is on our favorite couple who celebrate the anniversary of their surprise Pemberley meeting and then holiday at the seashore.

More extensive research is imparted with stunning detail as they enjoy a number of the typical and atypical entertainments of the day. Later highlights include Pemberley estate affairs handled by the Master of Pemberley, revelations of our favorite physician, the renewal of their wedding vows, their first wedding anniversary, and the birth of their first child.

Expect loads more of the extended family with everyone’s lives moving on with new romances, marriages, pregnancies, and so on. By the end of this novel the reader will have spent a year with our favorite couple and will be intimately acquainted with a wealth of amazing characters given a depth of personality.

The harbor and pier was clogged with fishing boats of all sizes replete with clamoring fishermen and straining nets of fish. The smell would have been overpowering if not for the constant easterly breeze capturing the wafting odors and transporting them far to sea. Nonetheless, it was unpleasant at times. Lizzy, as well as most of the women meandering about and a good number of the men, kept a perfumed handkerchief close in hand. Happily, the stench waned the farther one walked down the jetty. Darcy kept a firm grip to Lizzy’s elbow as they walked the damp, uneven wooden dock. It was wide and very well constructed, intended to cater to the tourist desiring the excitement of invigorating ocean winds and pounding surf under one’s feet; however, it was also a working dock with hardy men toiling and the risk of impeding ropes and fish innards blocking the path.

They made their way to the extreme end without mishap. It was a beautiful day, cloud-free and warm, the incessant air currents gentle but cooling. The majority of the boats preferred to anchor closer to shore for the ease in offloading their catch, which meant the far ends of the wharf were empty. Other brave folk were standing at the rail, Darcy and Lizzy finding a clear space with a stunning view of the endless waters north and east. They stood nestled close, Lizzy absorbing Darcy’s radiating heat, with backs to the shore. The surf roiled and gulls screeched, the sounds just loud enough to drown any noise from the shore and moored ships, rendering a disconnected sensation.

“If the boards beneath our feet undulated it would be exactly how it feels on a ship,” Darcy said. “I remember the first time I took a sea voyage, when we went to France, I could not quite decide if I enjoyed it or not.”

“Did you get seasick?”

“No, fortunately. Jonathan did, poor thing, as did my uncle, although he would likely deny it if you asked him.” Lizzy laughed. “They both retched horribly and kept to their bunks. Thankfully it was only a channel crossing. No, I always suffer a headache while aboard ship. My stomach has no upheaval, but my head splits.” He shrugged. “I do not know why. Lying down makes it worse, which seems odd. I do best if I stay near the bow, feel the spray, and breathe deeply. Anyway, aside from that discomfort, I do love watching the waves, and there is nothing as stupendous as glimpsing the occasional whale spout or jumping porpoise. Yet at the same time the sense of helplessness, of knowing there are fathomless depths of water under and all about is disconcerting. Maybe that is why I get such a headache. I despise being out of control and having my entire fate at the mercy of other people and natural forces.”

He shuddered and Lizzy chuckled, squeezing his arm. “Yes, I can see why this would frustrate you. I daresay I would feel much the same so am thankful for the firm foundation. Richard suffers no ill effects?

”Darcy laughed. “Richard is a born seaman. Honestly. I told him he was a fool to not join the navy, and he did consider the option, but decided the draw of the cavalry outweighed a ship. In the end it makes the most sense since, like me, he was practically born in a saddle. Still, I was a bit surprised as he perpetually extolled the exploits and virtues of Admiral Nelson with stars in his eyes, forcing me to play navy whenever possible. He was always Nelson and I some underling being ordered about to swab the deck or load the cannons.”

Darcy smiled in remembrance. “Even then he possessed the air of command. I wish you could see Richard in this light, Elizabeth. He is so different. You would be amazed.”

“Why did he not join the navy then?”

“By the time he finished at Cambridge, Nelson was dead. Napoleon was raging across Europe and soldiers were needed. It truly did make the most sense for him to be in the cavalry, and Uncle encouraged it. Richard rose quickly. He earned the rank of Second Lieutenant before he left for Russia in 1812. By the end of that campaign he was elevated to Captain. By 1815, at Waterloo, he was a Junior Major commanding two companies and distinguished himself brilliantly. He earned his Colonel’s stars at battle’s end.”

“I confess I have not given much consideration to Richard’s career. How remiss of me! I had no idea he was such a hero. You all must be so very proud of him.”

“Assuredly. Although it was horrible during the long months with no communication. Aunt Madeline worried so. She had not embraced Richard joining the military, even though it is a typical career choice for second sons, and Richard would not be deterred. Still, I suppose all mothers are torn between pride in their sons for serving their country and tremendous fear. Each letter would be met with great rejoicing. We did not see Richard for nearly four years, but he returned with injuries minimal and medals abounding. We were blessed, so many families losing loved ones during those long years.”

“Was he much changed when he returned? One hears terrible stories of what battle does to some men.”

“Oddly, no. At least not too much. Richard has ever been gay hearted and humorous. Jolly, I suppose, is an apt word. Yet he is amazingly intelligent and focused. The casual acquaintance does not see that aspect of his personality. We spoke at length and seriously about his experiences at war, and he shared with Uncle, but few others will ever hear him talk of it without a ready joke or clearly embellished tale. Georgiana loves to hear him regale his exploits, wholly unaware that none of them bear more than a passing resemblance to the truth.”

“What song are you playing? I have never heard that one before.” Lizzy glanced up from her embroidery, directing the question toward her sister-in-law, who was entertaining on the pianoforte.

Georgiana reddened, evading Lizzy’s quizzical look. “I wrote it,” she replied in a small voice, speaking louder at the dawning astonishment on Lizzy’s face, “but you cannot tell William! Promise me.”

“Why not? It was beautiful, Georgiana. I had no idea you had composed music. I am very impressed and know William would be as well.”

“I do not think he would understand. And besides, it is merely a trifling thing. Not very good at all.”

“I beg to differ. It was lovely. Perhaps not of the quality to worry Mr. Beethoven that he has serious competition, but certainly enjoyable to hear.”

Georgiana laughed at Lizzy’s tease. “No, I doubt any true composers need be threatened.” She sighed, her eyes suddenly dreamy. “It was fun to try my hand at writing. Lizzy,” she paused, speaking haltingly when she resumed, “do you believe, as Uncle says, that someday females will be able to… be more… be accepted beyond… not be frowned upon or chastised for pursuing… something else… or. Oh, I am making no sense!”

Lizzy laughed. “I understand you, Georgiana. Your uncle is a bit of a revolutionary, is he not?”

Georgiana nodded, giggling. “Indeed. Although I think he usually says radical comments just to see William’s face and enter a debate. Still, it would be nice to have an option in life.”

“Do you not wish to be a wife and mother?”

“Oh yes! Yes, I do!” Georgiana nodded emphatically. “Very much! But,” she rose then, pacing with uncharacteristic energy, “there are times, when I am listening to music, or learning a new piece, when I will see notes upon a sheet in my mind. New notes, joined uniquely as the sounds play within my head, forming sections and whole movements. Cadenza, scherzo, ostinato, toccata. Melodies I have never heard before. Unfamiliar arrangements.”

She stopped, sighing and shrugging. “So I write them down, sometimes. Wondering if they are truly my own ideas or lost remembrances.”

“I see nothing wrong with you placing your musical visions upon paper, Georgiana. If this is a gift you have been granted, then explore it! Creating music, even if only enjoyed by a few, is a beautiful, worthwhile endeavor.”

“You do not think it silly? A waste of time?”

“Of course not. Why is it any different than painting or weaving? If you enjoy writing your own songs, you should. I know I would love to hear more. How many have you composed?”

“Only a few sonatas, an impromptu, and I am working on a nocturne. All of a romantic bent, thus confirming my hopes in life and lack of wild inspiration.” She finished with a laugh.

“What an accomplished woman,” Lizzy whispered with true pride and awe. “Your brother would be immeasurably proud.”

“Truly?”

“Without a doubt. He adores you, Georgiana, and only wishes for your happiness. You have no idea how proud he is of you. Play any of your tunes, especially the one you played for me, and he will probably burst from the joy.”

“Did you know that women are allowed to enroll as students at the Conservatoire in Paris?” She glanced at a nodding Lizzy, her cheeks rosy and voice wistful. “It must be amazing to be surrounded by people desiring to learn nothing but music. To be immersed in music all day. To meet great musicians and singers and composers.”

“You will travel to the Continent, Georgie. You know William plans for it. There you will encounter innumerable opportunities to enhance your skills. Paris is going nowhere and the Conservatoire will wait. Of course, this is provided you do not fall in love with the first man you meet at Almack’s next spring.”

“Oh, heaven forbid! William would surely have a heart seizure! I think he would sooner allow me to take the Grand Tour or dwell in Paris than that! Frankly I pray I am refused so I do not have to face such agony.”

Lizzy laughed. “I am sorry to disappoint, my dear, but the odds of that are miniscule.”

“One never knows, Lizzy. The Patronesses are whimsical in their approval. I heard that Angelica Cole was refused and Mary Ward!” Georgiana sat next to Lizzy, her face pale. “William would be devastated if I was denied, but then I am terrified of dancing with all eyes upon me. Oh my, I truly am a mouse as Richard insists!”

“Silly girl! First, Richard calls you his ‘little mouse’ because you are sweet, adorable, and mild. Second, no Darcy will be refused at Almack’s. And third, you have had some practice dancing while in Wales, and after your presentation at Court, Almack’s will be nothing.”

Now it was Georgiana who laughed. “You say that because appearing at Court is what you dread!”

“Indeed I do,” Lizzy shuddered. “One look at the gate before St. James’s Palace and I knew I never wanted to walk through them. How can you be so complaisant? I was perfectly content to forego all the ‘coming out’ nonsense. Why does William insist I must?”

“Because you are Mrs. Darcy of Pemberley. He is proud of you and wants everyone to know how immensely fortunate he is.”

“I shall trip over the formal gown and train, I know I shall. Or forget the proper phrases. The Prince will be insulted and I shall be mortified.”

“Nonsense. Aunt Madeline will prepare us adequately, and besides, it is in and out within five minutes. I, on the other hand, will suffer the trauma of a whole evening being stared at and probably tripping over my own feet. It shall be torture!”

“Be cheered, dear sister. William will be there with you as chaperone, most likely glowering at every eligible male in the dance hall, so none of them will have the audacity to ask you to dance anyway!”

The path was not steep, in fact was not a true path at all, but more accurately consisted of sandy gaps between the tufts of vegetation. Twice it was necessary to step over masses of flowering gorse, reacquiring the trail downward. Nonetheless, it was an easy descent, Lizzy not the slightest bit winded. Her booted feet sunk into the warm sand with each stride. She laughed, looking at Darcy with sparkling eyes.

“It is rather difficult to walk on and so warm! I can feel the heat through my soles. I was planning on removing my shoes but think not.” She squatted, scooping a handful of the hot dry sand and trickling it through her fingers.

“Closer to the water the sand will be cooler, and firmer. You can remove your shoes then if you wish. I should warn you, the sand will lodge between your toes.”

He was grinning happily, Lizzy leaning onto his chest with a coy simper and fingers at his cravat. “Will you remove your boots, William, so I can see sand between your lovely toes? I might even be impelled to tickle your gritty toes with mine. Would this please you?”

“I suppose I could be induced to perform in such a childish manner as long as we remain alone.” He bent to kiss her as they were utterly alone, even Mr. Anders and Tillson out of view, but Lizzy pivoted and dashed toward the water line, her glittering laugh waving behind her.

Her sprint was not as speedy or graceful as usually accomplished due to the soft sand, Darcy rapidly outdistancing her with longer and stronger legs encased in tough boots. He halted on the hard sand, just beyond the tide’s reach, hands extended to assist her final few steps.

“Very well,” she panted, “it is official. I am a whale too ponderous to move across the sand! Grossly unfair, Mr. Darcy, and it is entirely your fault!”

Darcy chuckled, kissing her forehead and then kneeling to unlace her shoes. “I do believe you have something to do with the state you find yourself in, my love; however, if it pleases you, I shall assume all blame. Steady yourself on my shoulder and breathe deeply. The salt air will revive you. Other foot.”

Lizzy gingerly placed her naked foot onto the sand, but Darcy was correct that it was cooler near the water, although warm. She wiggled her toes, smiling at the strange sensation. “It feels so different than dirt or river sand. So fine and soft.” Her other foot was now bare, Darcy holding her boots and stockings, and she began to stroll, slowly digging her toes with each step while hiking her dress up to mid-calf. She headed toward the water line, the sand gradually cooling further with moistness apparent, as Darcy watched her with rising delight.

He experienced a sudden flash of memory.

Georgiana at four years of age, chubby legs striding with exaggerated steps over the sand at Sidmouth with her tiny face screwed up in perplexity, seriously debating whether she liked this odd sensation or not. Anne Darcy held her daughter’s hand with a sunny smile, laughing her throaty laugh, while Darcy and his father stood several feet away observing the scene with pleasure.

“She is going to cry,” a solemn sixteen-year-old Fitzwilliam said. “You wait. One of her infamous bellows that will frighten the seagulls clear to France.”

His father laughed, clapping a hand onto his son’s shoulder, already on the same level as his own. “Bet you a shilling she laughs.”

Darcy looked at his father with a grin. “Deal!” They shook on it and not two minutes later Darcy was digging into his pockets for a shiny shilling to hand over to his father while Georgie chortled her babyish delight, tugging on her mother’s hand in an insistent urge to become one with the cresting waves.

The scene on this deserted stretch of Norfolk shore was different in a myriad of ways, but the sight of his wife laughing as the cold, foamy water lapped at her ankles was strangely reminiscent. He did not fear her bodily launching into the sea, but her amusement and childlike zeal were not too dissimilar from Georgiana’s. She glanced over her shoulder to her husband, who remained standing and holding her shoes.

“Are you afraid, Mr. Darcy? Fear the cold water may freeze your toes? Or that the tide may suck you in, a big fellow like yourself?”

Darcy shook his head, deigning not to answer. He looked about, spotting a rock five feet away. He sat and removed his boots and stockings, after another thorough search about to ensure they were alone. He joined his wife, already splashing her way toward the rocks, taking her hand as they strolled. He sighed deeply. “This is precisely as I imagined it. You and I strolling along the beach with the waves crashing and birds flying. Not a soul in sight.”

“It will likely be busier where we are staying, so we should enjoy this time.”

“Not necessarily. Mr. Vernor said the inn is secluded near a private cove. The guests are allotted individual periods to bathe, if desired, or merely gaze into the sea. Of course, we will be visiting other areas more public, but I chose this place for that reason. He also said the dining parlors overlook the ocean. We can dine and watch for sea creatures or ships passing.” He paused, drawing Lizzy into his arms and leaning for a kiss.

They held each other tightly in silence, contentedly watching the surf and inhaling the fresh, crisp air as the sun lowered in the west.

“Samuel, please ask the nearest footman to inform Dr. Darcy that Mrs. Darcy is having the baby. It is not emergent, but we request his company once he is dressed. Then can you inform Mrs. Reynolds? I will need her here as soon as possible. Thank you.”

Samuel left the room with a brisk nod, Darcy standing in the middle for a minute. He took several deep breaths, allowing a wash of tremors to cascade through his veins. He closed his eyes, sending a prayer for strength heavenward. One second at a time, Darcy, he commanded himself, be strong for her and do not let her sense your anxiety!

Entering the room some ten minutes later, Darcy was again in charge of his emotions. Lizzy was reclining as he left her and immediately he noted that she was experiencing another pain, the furrows between her brows present and lips pursed as she concentrated on breathing. He knelt beside the sofa, taking her hand for tender stroking. She released the cleansing exhalation, squeezing his hand and smiling weakly. “I am so thirsty.”

“Mrs. Reynolds should be here any… See, any minute.” He stood to answer the knock at the door, greeting Mrs. Reynolds with a giddy smile. “Mrs. Reynolds, my wife seems determined to present me with our child today. Has Dr. Darcy been sent for? Excellent. First, will you notify Mr. Thurber to send one of the grooms to Hasberry for the Bingleys? I will pen a note to deliver. Secondly, ask the kitchen for a tray and tea, perhaps some juice as well. Let me think… what else?”

“Shall I inform Miss Darcy?”

“If she is awake, yes please. She can keep Mrs. Darcy company as soon as she wishes to. Whatever else you deem sensible; I trust your judgment at this juncture superior to mine. Oh, coffee, please.”

She curtsyed and left, passing George Darcy in the sitting room. He approached with casual strides, tea cup in one hand and muffin in the other, dressed in a flowing garment of canary yellow with green edging.

“I was informed that babies are birthing hereabouts? Elizabeth! You are still pregnant!” He stopped abruptly on the threshold, feigning shock.

“Yes, Uncle, we thought we would wait for you. Now that you have arrived, perhaps you can work your magic and speed the process along?”

“Alas, my dear niece, magic does not reside in these hands. Only staggering expertise and superior knowledge. William, you do intend on dressing and shaving? Your baby’s eyesight will suffer if greeted by such a frightful vision.”

“And your brash appearance is benign?” Elizabeth interjected.

“Babies love bright colors. Stimulates the retina.” He had crossed to the fireside chair positioned across from Lizzy, sitting and extending long legs nonchalantly as he bit into the muffin. “So,” he resumed while chewing, “tell me how we are faring, dear.”

Lizzy launched into a briefly detailed synopsis of her contraction history while Darcy stood nearby, not sure whether he was calmed or irritated by his uncle’s blasé attitude. Luckily he had no time to figure it out as another pain began, Darcy swiftly kneeling at his wife’s side to assist and comfort. George ate in silence while Darcy stroked Lizzy’s forehead and murmured soft encouragement until the pain passed, leaning for a brushing kiss.

He sat back on his heels, yet holding Lizzy’s hand, and turned to his placidly masticating uncle. “What is the plan, Dr. Darcy? What is your professional opinion?”

“Elizabeth, I fear you are yet in the early stages of labor. I could examine you, but it is not necessary. Trust me when I tell you that you will know when the labor is causing changes and nearing completion. The truth is, as we have spoken previously, the birth course will be set by the baby and internal forces. However, there are some actions that may affect the outcome.”

He sat up briskly, suddenly alert and businesslike. “Here is the plan. William, you will freshen up and dress, then go have a full breakfast…”

“You were serious about that?”

“Absolutely. Well, not about the baby’s eyesight part, but you do need to take a few minutes for yourself.”

“I am not leaving my wife!”

“Dearest, I think your uncle is right about this. No, listen. I will need you more later, and you need to be fresh and energized. Food is essential for you as you get grumpy when hungry.” She smiled tenderly, caressing the hand clasped in hers. “And only I am allowed to become grumpy today.”

“I will not leave her, William, and Mrs. Reynolds should return momentarily. We will call you if needed, but trust me in that nothing will change in the following hour, sorry, Elizabeth.”

“Write to Jane and Charles, beloved, and take care of yourself. I will be fine.” She halted as another pain enveloped her. Darcy assumed his role as comforter.

George rose to answer the knock on the sitting room door, revealing a tray-encumbered Mrs. Reynolds trailed by three equally laden maids. “Well, well!” He declared with a broad grin and snatched a blackberry tart, biting hugely. “Mmmmm… Oh my, this is heavenly.” He sighed, eyes closed in ecstasy. “Mrs. Langton is a gift from God.”

“I believe these were for Mr. and Mrs. Darcy, Dr. Darcy,” Mrs. Reynolds said with a smile, “but by all means, help yourself.”

“Thank you, madam. Actually, the father-to-be is ordered to break his fast with his sister, and none of these delicious edibles are appropriate for Mrs. Darcy. She is restricted to liquids and perhaps fruits, if she can tolerate. Anything heavy will induce nausea.” He turned to one of the maids. “Miss, we will require a steady influx of hot, sweet tea and juices.”

I love this series and highly recommend it. 5-Stars!   I must say that I was fortunate to catch this series in it’s current format and I have loved each and every book. I like Sharon Lathan’s writing style. Her characters are well developed and their lives usually address issues that are part of society even today. I recommend that readers start the series with book one and follow the amazing Darcy family through the beautiful epilogue novella, Darcy Christmas. In each of the books the young couple matures and their marriage gets stronger and stronger. Their love is a deep, devoted emotion that never fails to enable them to overcome all adversities. (ArkansasAustenFan)

Its as if you are there with your dearest friend Elizabeth. 5-Stars!  I have read this series through so many times I know most of it by heart. Its my go-to when sad, stuck in house, feeling bored and many other times, these books draw you into their world as if you are a dear friend experiencing everything as Darcy and Elizabeth do. I Love the Darcys!! 5-Stars!  I love this series!! Sharon Lathan’s Darcy Saga is by far my favorite Jane Austen fan fiction! (And believe me I’ve read many of them). My Dearest Mr. Darcy is the third book in the series (1 – Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One, 2 – Loving Mr. Darcy: Journeys Beyond Pemberley, 3 – My Dearest Mr. Darcy: An amazing journey into love everlasting, 4 – In the Arms of Mr. Darcy, 5 – The Trouble with Mr. Darcy due out April 1, 2011) and continues as the Darcys vacation at the seaside and prepare for the birth of their first child. I love the Darcys and their love for each other and their family. Life has it’s ups and downs for the Darcys but their love continues to triumphs over all! (Miss Meg)

I love Jane Austen books especially this Pride and Prejudice group. 5-Stars!  I love Jane Austen books especially the Pride and Prejudice group that Sharon Lathan has written these past few years. When I finished the story I couldn’t believe it was the end & felt that there must be more to it. I am so glad she has written more books & is continuing the saga of the Darcy’s who are so unforgettable. Hurray for Sharon Lathan. She is a true avid fan of Jane Austen & is so capable of writing in her style of content. I thoroughly recommend the book to any one who has romance in thei hearts & a true love of Jane Austen. (Alice Shakespeare)

Lovely. 5-Stars! My Dearest Mr. Darcy continues the journey between Mr. Darcy and his new bride Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy. Sharon Lathan allows us to see and feel how utterly blissful everlasting love truly can be as she continues her loving story of this famous couple. The respect for my favorite two characters is wonderful. She has brought to life my vision of ever after for Darcy and Elizabeth in such a way that is nothing short of addicting! I have read all her books more than once as I wait on pins and needles for the next to be released. If you enjoy novels that are beaming with romance, love, respect, happiness and joy then I highly recommend this series to you. Sharon delivers in every way! Thank you Sharon for making me apart of this wonderful union and believing that true love is real! (Kerry Leblanc)

Amazing! 5-Stars! I am in love with these books! I stumbled upon the 1st book at Target one day. After I finished the first book I found myself sad that there wasn’t a second book. A few weeks later I found out that there was another one! By the time I finished that book I found out about the website and ANOTHER book was coming out in January 2010. I literally counted down the days till I could get my hands on it! She is a wonderful writer and everything you could dream of for the Darcy family is in Sharon’s books. I was so sad after the first night I received my third book because before I knew it I had already read so much of it. You just can’t put it down! I am looking forward to October 2010 when the next book comes out! If you liked Pride and Prejudice at all you MUST READ THIS SERIES!!!! (Jodie B)

The epitome of true love. 5-Stars!  Another masterpiece in the Darcy Saga. What makes this book whole is that it goes outside of the bedroom and into the real world with real life situations. We always expect everything to be perfect with Darcy and Lizzy, however we get a taste of conflict, anxiety, and sometimes a little pain. It seems more like a life journey which makes their marriage more meaningful and filled with true love.

Mr. Darcy has definitely maintained his level of pride but has also softened under Lizzy’s loving touch. I enjoyed his continued anxiety over Lizzy’s well-being (which irritated her), and his eager interest in becoming a father. Lizzy has grown in her role as Mistress, but maintains her true essence of being the smart, witty and clever Lizzy that we all love.

I enjoyed the historical parts of the book. Both in and out of college I’ve always taken an interest in British history and its brilliantly weaved into the book. We fall in love with the Darcy’s but also learn about England and are able to see the Era that they lived in.

Besides Mr. Darcy, I think we have a new character to fall in love with and it’s his uncle Dr. Darcy. When reading each page about the lovable doctor, he’s obviously very handsome, funny, intelligent and great to be around. But above all, it’s touching to see the relationship between the two men evolve into almost a father/son relationship. (Naysa Woomer)

Second in series – Terrific! 5-Stars!  This book is great in it’s detail of the Regency era and locations, but love the way we see all our familiar characters and some great new ones. If you don’t give this series by Mrs Lathan a chance you are sorely missing out on a wonderful trip to the life that has become a continuation ofPride and Prejudice. I am hooked and have read all of them. A must read. (phantom phan a)

A truly wonderful sequel! 5-Stars!   Now everyone is able to read the third book written by Sharon Lathan. And again it is a marvelous book! In this one Lizzy and Darcy travel to the sea, enjoy their time there with sightseeing, bathing, a Magic Lantern and so much more. It is both, entertaining and interesting to read. One can learn a lot about the daily life back in 1817. One of the best chapters is the one, where Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam renew their wedding vows in the chapel of Pemberley. And most important, the Darcys are awaiting the birth of their first child.

I love Sharon Lathan’s books, because she really knows how to write a good novel, she is giving all the characters of the book a real life, you can feel and laugh with them and most important: she is creating an amazing life for the Darcys, full of love and trust and surrounded by family and friends. I can’t get enough of it! (Susanne Pichler)

Wonderful! 5-Stars!  I enjoyed this third book of the series so much! I feel that Ms. Lathan’s books are true to the spirit of Jane Austen and give satisfying conclusions to the many situations and personalities in Pride and Prejudice. These books are enjoyable because the love and commitment between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is beautifully expressed and all three books in the series are amazingly romantic. Keep on writing more, please! (Sherry Lee)

A Baby is Born! 5-Stars! The third installment by Sharon Lathan is just as good as her first two – perhaps even better, as the heir to Pemberley is born! Elizabeth and Darcy’s love is still the main focus, but it is lovely to read and is laced with wit! Dr George Darcy takes a much more senior role in the book also – I love the character and his background! More please, Ms Lathan, of him!!

I love this series. 5-Stars! Not only does it continue and share the deepening love story of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth but it also utilizes the characters and story originally created by Jane Austen. What I loved most about this particular book is that it focuses on their first child and I can easily imagine Mr. Darcy being a loving and supportive Dad and Elizabeth becoming a wonderful mother. I loved the new addition of Darcy’s Uncle George to the story and how unexpected minor characters are finding love (aka Mary and Anne). Good book overall and I cannot wait to read the next book.

The chapter where Lizzy gave birth was so well written!! 5-Stars!  I felt the excitement as she went into labour, I felt Darcy’s distress at seeing his wife in pain, I felt the impatience as the day progressed, I felt comforted by Dr Darcy’s presence, I loved how Jane and Darcy were there for Lizzy through it all, I felt her pain, I was on the edge of my seat in the final stages, I felt the overwhelming love and joy Darcy & Lizzy felt as their baby arrived, I felt Lizzy’s exhaustion. I just LOVED all the DETAIL! I was there! Just brilliant!! Bravo Sharon!!

A good read! 5-Stars!  This is the book that all Pride and Prejudice fans need to continue to look at the lives of our beloved characters of Mr & Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy and their family. I wanted more and Sharon Lathan provide the insight.

More, please! 4-Stars!  The first part of My Dearest Mr. Darcy is told from the perspective of the inimitable Dr. George Darcy. He is a welcome addition to Austen’s cast of characters. Dr. George is Fitzwilliam Darcy’s uncle on his father’s side. The book shifts away from his perspective and is a well told tale of the happiness of the married Darcys. I could do with a lot less of them falling into each others’ arms for hot sex, because the rest of the tale is told in language so beautiful it is lyrical. (tontine)

Very vivid and romantic. 4-Stars!  The Darcy Saga is something more than I had expected. Sharon Lathan can always makes it very vivid. Sometimes I can picture it in my mind, it seems that I am not just reading it but seeing it! And it is extremely romantic, Darcy is way too good and thoughtful. I believe all would enjoy it as much as I do. (L. Ho)

The Best of the Series. 5-Stars! I think I have enjoyed this book the most in the series. There is more humor and the story is well developed and interesting. The story continues with the Darcy and Elizabeth expecting their first child. The lovers’ travels through the Lakes is enchanting. I loved Elizabeth’s possessiveness and protection of her husband when a gold digger steps in to threaten their relationship. In this novel, Dr. Darcy and William’s relationship is more firmly cemented and established. The scenes with William and George are heartwarming. I also enjoyed the way Lathan interweaves the romances of other characters into her main story line. Well done, again!

Absolute Favorite!!! 5-Stars! As I turned the pages of this novel, Sharon turned on the movie screen in my head. Incredible detail, amazing character analysis. The beauty of this novel is amazing and I fell instantly in love with it. I read this novel in a few short hours. I could not put it down. This was another book that kept me up until 3 AM, but I had to read it. It got it the day it came out, which was horrible because then I had to wait a really long time for the next. If you have not read any of this series you are completely missing out. Sharon is amazing and I am so thankful for each of these stories.

Love this book!!! 5-Stars! Sharon Lathan writes the Darcys perfect! They are how I imagine them living happily ever after. There is romance, love, family and of course a little drama! I look forward to when her new one books come out and can’t wait to get my hands on them! I recommend her books to everyone!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her!

You’ll love it if you love Pride and Prejudice… 5-Stars! Sharon Lathan is a great author, and this series is a lot of fun to read. If you enjoy Pride and Prejudice you will love this. It really feels like what would have happened if Pride and Prejudice had been continued, with no damage done to the characters that we love so much. One of my favorite series. Period.

One of the Best Books I Have Read. 5-Stars! I absolutely love this book! I have the first three and cannot wait to get the newest. The characters are just what Mr. and Mrs. Darcy should be. I can tell that they are in love and that is what I want for them. The story line is wonderful and I couldn’t put it down because I was hooked. I hope Sharon Lathan keeps writing these amazing books!!!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book! 5-Stars!  I just bought it a couple days ago. In three sittings, I finished it last night. Breathtaking! I’m going to re-read it while I anxiously wait for the second & third volumes to be delivered. Like the author, after watching Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, I wanted more of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. Sharon did a fabulous job! THANK YOU so much!

My Dearest Mr. Darcy. 5-Stars! Sharon Lathan does an excellent job on this book, as well as the other two in the trilogy. She shows the love, admiration, respect and consideration that these two lovers have for each other in spite of a rocky courtship. This is the kind of story that holds my interest and I didn’t want to put it down. It is absolutely more than a feel good book. I just wish it could go on forever.

LOVING THESE! 5-Stars!  I am a big reader, I usually finish a good book in a couple days. With this series I found my self dragging them out and reading other things in between because I did not want to finish them. I hate interruptions while I am reading and needless to say SOOO MUCH MORE while reading these. I loved this one, because the love shines though it all.

Your Mr. Darcy fantasies will be fulfilled! 5-Stars! If you ever wondered what the passionate love life of Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy might have been like, then this book will fill in your imagination with swoon-worthy gallantry, frequent passages of passionate love, and the undying love they professed to each other grows with each day of their marriage. As a reader the love they feel for one another is almost palpable and you have a continued sense their devotion is profound. A very satisfying read. I couldn’t put it down until I had absorbed every word! Ms. Lathan’s writing continues the saga of the famous Austen couple without any disappointments! When you are done reading you will let out the breath you didn’t even realize you had been holding! (Dinah)

Continued Love story worth reading. 5-Stars! I love this author. She has created the characters just like you have imagined them all these years – only better! The entire series is well worth the read! The only complaint I had was I couldn’t put them down, and when I did, the story was always my top thought. (rgio)

Sharon does it again… 5-Stars!   More romance… Sharon knows how two people who truly love each other and can’t live without one another create a life together. Her stories are romantic and powerful and make you believe in the Darcy’s love story. It is a wonderful read and allows you to go back in time and celebrate in the lives of the Darcys. (Livibug)

The Bomb. 5-Stars! As a lover of Austen’s writings, I fell in love with this series as well. I found it brilliant and heart warming. As the story continues, there is more passion and love shared between them two than I ever would have imagined just off of Austen’s work. Sharon puts together a wonderful continuation of the story and does not forget to include all the characters that we have come to know and love, even the characters that ruffled our feathers (Caroline Bingley) LOL! My review is just this: If you like Love stories, then this is one series that will fill your heart with passion. If you loved Pride and Prejudice then you will appreciate the continuation of the story as told through another writer. (Dish it Like Lish)

Sharon Lathan does it again!! 5-Stars!  The Darcys, at the end of their first year as man and wife… child on the way. The future bodes bright for our favorite literary couple. With Sharon’s mind keen on any and everything Darcy and Elizabeth; this book allows us, yet again to dive into Pemberley and the lives of the characters we’ve loved for years, nay decades if not more! Thank you Mrs. Lathan for writing another book that will let us go back in time and enjoy, romp and play in Regency England. Can’t wait until the next book!!! (Cyn Hatmaker)

Another amazing book! 5-Stars! I don’t care what anyone else may think, but I will continue to wait for each of Sharon Lathan’s books because each one seems to be better than the last. This book just makes me feel good about everything. It gives such a happy and truly intimate look at love and how I know it should be. Bravo Sharon Lathan its another great book! (J Zacher)

Such a wonderful fast read. 5-Stars!  You fall in love with all yourPride and Prejudice characters again!!! You learn so much about each character and Pemberley. The author does an outstanding job. I would recommend to anyone, even if you never read Pride and Prejudice. (S. Watts)

You have done it again! 5-Stars! A must read for any fans of the previous two books! Lathan is a wonderfully gifted author that offers everything and more to the Darcy Saga’s third book, or Pride and Prejudice continued! George Darcy is a smash hit, not to mention the wedding! I love the spirit of this book and how just a short time of marriage seems like they can read each others thoughts and minds. (DarcySagaFan)

Another wonderful addition to Lathan’s Darcy Saga. (Nora)

My absolute favorite of the series. A+++++  5-Stars! My Dearest Mr. Darcy is the third book in the Darcy Saga Series by Sharon Lathan. Sharon is a gifted author with an amazingly beautiful talent for the written word. In this book Darcy and Elizabeth visit the seaside as their last hoorah before the birth of their first child. I loved this book and had to buy it to add to my Darcy Saga collection. I especially love the description of the whole birthing process. In many ways reminded me of my own birthing experiences as they were done naturally. The book concludes with the two happy new parents bonding with their newborn. I am a huge fan of Sharon’s series and highly recommend any and all of her books. They are beautifully written and I count myself blessed to have happened upon them. (Ingrid Anderson)

Probably my favorite book in Sharon Lathan’s Darcy Saga. 5-Stars!This book spans the time beginning with the summer before their first anniversary comes and ends with the arrival of their new baby & the holiday at the year’s end. Lizzy & William are pregnant, anticipating their 1st baby. Their relationships blossoms as does their adventures as husband & wife. Their love they share is beautiful as they grow in so many ways together.

With travels & adventures comes the visit of the wonderful Dr. Darcy (William’s Uncle)! What an exceptional, delightful character you will find in him as he adds humor, excitement and so much love to this wonderful family! Oh!!…. and the much anticipated birth of Baby Alexander is heart-warming in so many ways!!!

With this book, you will find that Sharon Lathan’s talented writing gets better & better. There will be new & old characters/events that will capture your heart! Take the time to read this wonderful story & the others that precede & proceed it. You will be glad you did! I’m still smiling. (C Martinez)

A perfect, heart-warming, inspiring happily-ever-after portrait of a wonderful, blissful, happy marriage! 5-Stars! I tremendously enjoyed reading Sharon Lathan’s My Dearest Mr. Darcy, the third volume of her Darcy Saga. The book lovingly continues her portrayal of the happy marriage of Pride and Prejudice‘s Elizabeth and Darcy. The novel captivated me as much as the first two books in this series. It is an infinite joy to follow the Darcys and their family and friends on their journey through life. I also love the way Sharon Lathan effortlessly, naturally and wonderfully weaves in interesting details (based on extensive research) about daily Regency life into the book.

I tremendously love the author’s wonderful, captivating and inviting writing style. She is a fabulous master painter with words and writes with an enormous attention to detail. I am always completely drawn into her novels from the start. All Sharon Lathan’s novels enormously warm my heart to the core. They are beautifully romantic, sensual, passionate, heart-warming, moving, positive and humorous. And so beautifully written. For me the Darcy Saga novels are by far the most beautiful happily-ever-after novels I have ever read. They are exactly like I always imagined the Darcy marriage would be. Mrs. Lathan brilliantly captures the (timeless) essence of a loving relationship between two people. A beautiful portrait of a marriage based on enduring true love and respect. Her novels are very inspiring. They ooze love, friendship, respect and positivity. (Simone)

Still loving this series very much. 5-Stars!  I do not claim to be an expert by any stretch, just aPride and Prejudice lover. I have always wanted the story to continue and have read several “continuations” with varying impressions. However, Sharon Lathan’s books are fabulous. It feels like they could seriously be continuations. I have not been able to pace myself and have read each one as soon as possible. Yes, there are spots where one word seems a little too modern, but they are negligible on the whole and I find this book completely enjoyable!! Sharon Lathan has become one of my writers to look for. (Austen Coffee & Music)

Tender, passionate and beautifully written. 5-Stars!   I love the way Mrs. Lathan explores and reveals the depths of Elizabeth and William’s character. The amazing journey of both E. and W. to true happiness and devotion is beautifully told by Mrs. Lathan. (Sharon Mourning)

Another FABULOUS read from Sharon Lathan. 5-Stars!  I will admit that I am a huge Sharon Lathan fan. I have read A LOT of Jane Austen fan fiction but the Darcy Saga has captured my heart. Sharon’s writing style allows the reader to be transported right into the story. The extra characters that she creates fit so naturally into the story that it is as if they have always been there. George Darcy is a marvelous character!!! After reading the first three books in this series, I will even admit that my own good marriage has been made better by the influence of the Darcy’s fictitious marriage. I cannot wait for book number four! If you love Lizzy and Darcy and want to read something loving and upbeat…. this series is for you! (Maggie)

Sharon Lathan must continue her series with Mr and Mrs Darcy!!! 5-Stars!  I’ve read all three of the books in the series and just love them. Lizzy is still Lizzy with the experiences she has had over the last year which changed her for the better, and Mr. Darcy is the man that we all love, and so much more. I do believe that they would have been very similar to what Sharon has created. Keep up the good word Sharon and hope to read the 4th book this coming Fall. (Jasmine)

Romantically Delightful. 5-Stars!  It’s all very nice and enjoyable. Mr. Darcy continues to be too perfect to be real. Also the delightful character of Dr. Darcy is introduced and he is a gas. Miss de Bourgh finally gets some much needed attention as well. (Lightning Fury Strike)

A Great Read. 5-Stars!  A wonderful story kept me entertained from the first page. I found that it got better and better. I have loved this series so far as the new characters mix in greatly with Jane’s Pride and Prejudice characters. I especially love Dr George Darcy.  (Lynne Robson)

And so continues Pride and Prejudice… 4-Stars!  The Pride and Prejudice movie is excellent. I tried to read Jane Austen’s book, but the older style of writing was difficult to follow. But I always imagined the wedding, what it was like, and their marriage too. And so I bought Sharon Lathan’s first book. Being not an avid romance reader, I took a chance. I was glad I did! Now on her third in the saga, I just can’t seem to get enough! Her books are easy reads, and through her descriptions, I can see and experience Pemberley in my mind! Throughout My Dearest Mr. Darcy she weaves history with the fictitious Darcy and Lizzy. She brings them to life, and as a reader, one can relate to them, and cheer them on. I feel like Jane Austen would be happy to see her characters lives continue in this way! (loves2read50)

The extraordinary love and romance of Darcy and Lizzy continues in this third book of Ms. Lathan’s Darcy Saga, and this time we experience their passionate love affair up close and personal, spending more time with this wonderful couple on their own instead of surrounded by family and friends, though we still get a good dose of the intriguing Darcy and Bennet families.

The best part of this series for me is the way Darcy is becoming more and more outgoing because of his wife and his love for her. Lizzy is a natural when it comes to wit and socializing, her intelligence shining, and people gravitate to her just to be part of what she has to offer. Though Darcy is reticent about mixing in crowds of any kind, he is learning little by little how to let go and revel in the small enjoyments in life. I thoroughly enjoyed his scavenger hunt for Lizzy on her birthday, totally endearing and romantic. Darcy is definitely growing into himself.

A trip to the ocean turns out to be relaxing and also quite romantic for the Darcys. They spend a week doing nothing but lazing about the shore, making friends, swimming, taking fun side trips, and, of course, making love whenever the mood strikes. Ms. Lathan has done an extremely terrific job in her research, as is shown by not only the wealth of historical information in this book but also shown by the little nuggets of detail that make Darcy and Lizzy’s trip that much more interesting. There are other lesser trips too, but this particular one is a main part of the story and my favorite.

Of course, there is much concerning Lizzy’s pregnancy throughout the book, and once again it’s Darcy who pulls at the heartstrings. Like Lizzy, I fell more in love with the man every time he speaks to his son as he caresses Lizzy’s rounded belly, every time he rubs her back when he knows she hurts after a long day, every time he tells his wife how much he loves her for giving him such a precious gift.

And when the big day arrives bringing Baby Darcy into the world, Darcy again is right there for Lizzy, doing anything and everything necessary for her and their son during a very long labor. Another favorite part of the story for me is the aftermath of the baby’s birth, Lizzy and Darcy counting fingers and toes, not able to take their eyes off of him, Darcy cooing in that voice we all use when holding an infant, Lizzy nervous about leaving her son even for the length of dinnertime, and a whole host of other similarly delightful tidbits.

Darcy and Elizabeth’s families are well represented at different points in the book, with Darcy’s Uncle George being the main draw for me. He is one of those larger-than-life characters you can’t help but like. The scenes between him and Darcy are extra special, as are those when he delivers the baby. I hope he’s a character that will continue to pop in and out throughout the rest of the series.

As terrific as the historical aspect of this series is, as fun as it is having Darcy family and friends together for whatever reason, as intriguing as the mishaps, little tiffs, and other circumstances throughout are, it’s the love, the romance between these two characters that outshines it all, and Ms. Lathan has kept that front and center and kept it true to these characters who are loved the world over. Darcy and Lizzy are the epitome of that love and romance as Ms. Lathan first envisioned them and has now written them in her interpretation of their life together. I doubt anyone could have done it much better. Not even Jane Austen herself.

In this third novel, we pick back up with Darcy and Elizabeth waiting for their first baby. Much of the novel surrounds the journey that Elizabeth now takes as a much loved wife of Fitzwilliam Darcy, with her place at Pemberley and at Darcy’s side. The couple enjoy as much love and passion as in the previous two novels, yet in a deeper, more endearing way. While sensual, their bond is one of abiding love that finds them vacationing along the beautiful eastern coast, reveling in sea and sand together. While there, they encounter a woman who determines she must have Darcy for herself. It’s not a huge storyline, but one that I found quite fun, in that Darcy was repulsed, and Elizabeth was beyond protective. It just turned into a great scene, spelling out their style as a couple.

While most of the book is filled with leisurely days and enjoyable scenes of a loving couple and “nesting,” as they wait for their first child, the crux of the novel surrounded the birth of their first baby. As a reader you feel certain that Elizabeth will fare well, but there is an underlying anxiety in waiting for the moment. Will all be well, and will mother and child both come out healthy and happy in the end?

I happen to be a real fan of Sharon Lathan’s novels and writing style. Honestly, I feel very comfortable with her writing, and trust in the sentence structure to carry me through a beautiful story. It is interesting to me how her personal voice adds that second level to the romantic story, making it even sweeter. The experiences that Darcy and Elizabeth share are fun to witness, and although the birth of the baby seems to take an agonizingly long time to get to, there is a “real time” feeling about the story. There really isn’t a complication to be resolved, outside of the birth of the baby, so much of our reading time is spent in high anticipation for the big moment. We get to trip along with the Darcys, viewing their loving relationship like a great voyeur, reveling in their breathless love and happiness. After all, who doesn’t want a relationship filled with such depths of love and devotion? Yes, it touched off my romantic side. Sigh. Once again, the novel does have scenes of a sensual nature, but not as graphic as in many romance novels today.

As always, I loved reading Lathan’s third novel. The joy in this read is in the ramblings down seaside coasts and forest trails; the joy comes in the love and the pain. In some very simple ways, lovers of Pride and Prejudice have already imagined such sweet and loving scenes as painted for us in the pages of these novels, but here we get to sit back and enjoy their story as it unfolds. I really felt that this novel started to feel more like they were starting to slip into their settled roles, yet still filled with love. I enjoyed watching them relax into their marriage, and continue down the path towards becoming a great family. This was a great third installment, and I can already hardly wait for the fourth!

Another highly romantic and delightfully easy to read offering from Sharon Lathan. Once again, we are invited into the lives of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and his lovely wife, Elizabeth and what a dreamy and loving journey it is…

The love birds are off on some adventures together (which are not only enjoyable reading, but full of historical tidbits. You will learn something about this era in History) and are also looking forward to the arrival of their first-born child. Also present, as in the previous novels, are the supremely handled cast of supporting characters that Mrs. Lathan has given us to enjoy almost as much as Darcy and Lizzy. From family members to newly introduced friends, we get to visit with all of them. I remain an ardent fan of Dr. Darcy as I think he is a wonderfully imagined and unusual character. Dr. Darcy is a much-needed anchor and family link in the life of Fitzwilliam Darcy. The scenes between the two men are touching and will make you fall for both characters even more.

Among the most touching and vivid scenes in book are the birthing scenes and arrival of the Darcy baby. Mrs. Lathan draws on her real life knowledge both as a Mother and as a RN who works with newborn babies to bring us right there with Lizzy. If you have had a baby, you can relate and if you haven’t had a baby, you will have a very good idea of what giving birth is like. A word of caution though…. your partner likely has *no hope* of living up to the example that Darcy sets as an impending father. He’s amazing. The birthing scenes and the scenes directly after are some of the most endearing and well written of any book I have read in this genre. Expertly executed and unforgettable!

Through it all, the characters remain true to their core personalities. Darcy still reverts to being stern and ill-humored at times. Elizabeth is still lively, impertinent and manages to bring out the best in Darcy when he needs it most. At the center of this story are an iconic couple who have captured the hearts of readers for decades. Their story continues with the Darcy Saga in a very romantic, sweet and uplifting fashion. You just cannot help but love these characters as they are written by this author. Sharon Lathan has a true vision for the Darcys in a happy and highly amorous marriage that she never deviates from. It is a nice diversion from some of the unhappy and delusional places we sometimes find this couple in other renderings of their story.

Well researched, lovingly crafted and beautifully written! Happy reading Darcy fans!!

What a fantastic ending to this trilogy. Ms. Lathan captured Mr. Darcy perfectly. The Mr. Darcy, as performed by Matthew Macfadyen. Every single time Mr. Darcy speaks to Lizzy in this book, I get the shivers. This particular Mr. Darcy (Macfadyen) has the sexiest voice, IMHO.

This book opens with a journal from Mr. Darcy’s Uncle, Dr. Darcy. He’s a very engaging old man. He’s quite entertaining and lovable. So, on this prologue, you get snippets of Dr. Darcy’s life, Anne and Mary’s love story. I think it’s inspired. I laughed my head off imagining Lady Catherine’s face when Dr. Penaflor started with his genealogy details. Poor Lady C!

Darcy and Lizzy travel to the sea, and you can see that Elizabeth is as spirited as ever. I love that scene in the dining room with a particular lady. It just melts my heart how Darcy is as romantic as ever. There was this riddle game he concocted to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. It’s truly awesome. This book is quite scorching! I wish the series would continue. (Author note: It is continuing!) This is one of the most enjoyable adaptations I have read.

In this third book in the series the Darcys return to Pemberley after their eventful time in London, take a seaside holiday and then celebrate the birth of their first child the day before their first wedding anniversary. It is full of the beautiful, sensual romance that you know to expect from this wonderful series.

My favourite chapter in this book is without a doubt Chapter 17 which is the birth of the baby. It was so engaging and emotional that I cried several times whilst reading it. It was interesting and full of all the birth details, for those of us who love that sort of thing. I also enjoyed the announcement of Mary Bennet’s engagement as well as news of the Bingleys expecting their first baby. The novel ends just prior to Christmas so I imagine the next book will open with the Christmas celebrations with family, friends, and the new baby?? Now I have to say I found the third book a little harder to get into than I did the previous two and I think that is because it began with many letters from a minor character. It also seemed that there were a lot more letters in this book than others or maybe I’ve just forgotten, some were interesting and some I found not so interesting.

I will end my review with a quote that really sums up the tone of all the novels: “I love you, my Elizabeth. You are my soul, my blood and bone, my very life.”

I adore having a Sharon Lathan book delivered to my mailbox. Having read two of her books, I automatically know I’m in for a treat like no other. I usually settle down with a cup of tea and my favorite ginger snaps and immerse myself in exquisite regency reading.

This is exactly how I spent my weekend, devouring the latest novel by Sharon Lathan. My Dearest Mr Darcy continues on the story of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam as they celebrate the birth of their son, Alexander, and come around full circle in celebrating their second Christmas together. I love the way Sharon writes the characters of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam. Of all the Pride and Prejudice characters they are by far my favorites. As such, I can be inclined to be a little critical as to how authors portray them. After all Jane Austen wrote them best as the proud Fitzwilliam Darcy and the outspoken Elizabeth Bennet, destined for a life together.

However, Sharon never gives me a reason to be critical. She writes all the characters so flawlessly that I sometimes wonder that the story isn’t written by Jane Austen herself. Not only does she write Jane Austen’s characters very well, she breathes new life and depth into them. Had Jane Austen written more novels about Elizabeth and Darcy I would like to think she would write them as being the passionate lovers, as portrayed in My Dearest Mr Darcy.

My Dearest Mr Darcy is a treasure to be appreciated and loved by fans of Jane Austen and regency romance. In times of there being too many classic-mash-ups, such as Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, I think fans will adore the simple elegance that this beautiful novel. I highly recommend all fans race out and pick up this beautiful novel today.

Reading My Dearest Mr. Darcy was like being welcomed into the home of dear friends who I have come to know over a series of 3 books.  The fact that the home was Pemberley made it that much better.

Elizabeth and Darcy are finishing their first year of marriage and are still learning to be husband and wife. I like how Lathan injects moments of misunderstanding and pride into their mostly blissful relationship.  It adds tension into a story line where you already know the guy wins the girl. Even though I love the romantic notion of riding off into the sunset together, I kinda like the idea that they may, at some point, argue about where they parked the horse.

Elizabeth’s transition into becoming “Mrs. Darcy” to her new peers, her old friends from home, her staff and those who depend on her for their living is interesting to see both in books 2 and 3.  All does not go smoothly.  Dr. George Darcy continues to play an important role in the story line as well as offer a lot of humor. He fits so well into narrative that I consider him one of Jane Austen’s own that she just never mentioned. Lathan uses Dr. Darcy and Lady Underwood, etc, to reveal to the reader much information about medicine, social structure and politics during Regency England.  Who is Lady Underwood?  Just part of my favorite scene in the book.

The book begins with journal entries by Dr. Darcy that reach back to his arrival during the middle of book 2.  However, it is interlaced so with new details and perspectives, that I couldn’t find any bit that I would suggest to leave out.  The journal entries are followed by a series of letters from Jane, Mr. Bennet, Mary and Lydia.  It is interesting to start the book this way because letters do play an important role in Pride and Prejudice.  They are also a very important way that much of Jane Austen’s personal life is revealed to us today.

However, when chapter 3 began, that is when I felt the like the story really got started.  The tone is set right away was romantic.  I think I awwww’d right out loud.  Much of the story finds the Darcys traveling. Mrs. Lathan packed in so much detail about the local areas and the historic sites that they saw, I think I could use this book as a travel guide.  I don’t know if the details are accurate, but as long as Mr. Darcy is reciting them to me, who cares?  There are illnesses and separations.  All in all, the plot moves quickly and a lot of it is driven by dialogue. I like that.

As I have said in previous Sharon Lathan book reviews, I think one of Lathan’s strong points is the ability to continue generating these wonderful moments; both big and small.  Darcy as a tour guide, “Anywhere but East,” the pearls, swimming… I could go on but I don’t want to give these scenes all away. She doesn’t just take you from big scene to big scene, but pays attention to the characters on the way there.  Lathan’s originality is in the detail and depth of her story.  I don’t know where Darcy and Elizabeth are headed, but I want to be there for it.

I have read this series 4 times.  As someone who was very skeptical of the inspiration during the first book, I found myself unable to stop reading long enough to review these books individually.  I think that is really the best sort of recommendation.

The Darcy’s lives are going in directions I don’t think of them expected. A baby on the way, a marriage that’s still so very new and a love that’s more powerful than just about anything. Whereas the first book was about the very beginning of their marriage and them getting to know each other and the second book was about them traveling, MDMD is more about them getting ready for their new baby and how they go about doing it. Ms. Lathan works with babies in her real life and you can see that in how she writes about the Darcy’s preparation for their new arrival. Where most books only hint at the baby and then boom its there, she really goes into detail about not only Lizzie’s physical changes, but also the emotional ones that both she and Darcy are going through. Ms. Lathan also makes the Darcy’s pretty forward-thinking and progressive when it comes to how they want to handle the birth.  I’m thankful that this book doesn’t have anything bad happening to Lizzie like the first 2 books did.

There are two things I really enjoy about Ms. Lathan’s books. One-the true expression of feeling between Lizzie and Fitzwilliam. Their love is something you really believe in. You want them to be happy and to live a long, fulfilling life together. Two-the secondary characters. There are quite a few of them and usually I’d find myself confused, but she’s able to pull it off. My favorite secondary character is Fitzwilliam’s Uncle.  His uncle is a doctor who spent many years in India and whose past is rather tragic. He’s going to be there for the delivery of the baby and the way he interacts with both Lizzie and Darcy brings some much-needed humor to the story.

The end will bring a tear to your eyes, especially if you’ve invested your time into this world that Ms. Lathan has created. To see how powerful and meaningful the end is and what it does to bring the two of them even closer together…*sigh*  All in all, I have to give two big thumbs up to Sharon. She did an excellent job… again and I can’t wait to see where she takes this family that I’ve come to love.

Elizabeth and Darcy’s first year of marriage is coming to an end and they both are finding that they are more in love with each other than they ever thought. But Darcy learns that there are still many things to learn about Elizabeth and that he can still be surprised.

The Darcy Saga is another first for me. It’s the third book in the series, but definitely easy to follow. Loving Pride and Prejudice myself, I have to say read this story was a treat. Revisiting such beloved characters, peaking in on what their life has brought them. A heartfelt enjoyable story filled with passion and warmth. Beautifully written. You can tell just how much the author loves the story and the characters. If you’re a fan of Pride and Prejudice and ever wondered what happen to Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy after the book ended, The Darcy Saga is the perfect series to indulge in.

Darcy and Elizabeth have not yet been married a year and are awaiting the arrival of their first child. Before the baby arrives, Darcy decides to take a vacation by the sea with Elizabeth, and they grow even closer. Unfortunately, there is a scheming woman with an eye for the handsome Darcy, who tries to cause problems.

My Dearest Mr. Darcy is a snapshot of a brief period in time experienced by two of the most beloved characters in literature. Ms. Lathan incorporates wonderful period details and many of the characters seen in Pride and Prejudice make a reappearance, as well as, several interesting new characters. This reader, particularly, liked Darcy’s eccentric uncle George, who is a Doctor who practiced in India and wears Indian garb. This story is first and foremost about the developing relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth, and Ms. Lathan does a great job of telling that story in a believable manner. I defy anyone not to fall further in love with Darcy after reading this book, and Elizabeth acts in ways that are truthful to her established character from Pride and Prejudice.

Lovers of Pride and Prejudice should enjoy My Dearest Mr. Darcy, because it is essentially a feel-good read. However, if the reader dislikes spicy sex scenes, she might give this sequel a miss.

Sharon Lathan takes up where Jane Austen left off and regales the reader with her third novel in The Darcy Saga. My Dearest Mr. Darcy is a brilliantly woven tale picking up where Pride and Prejudice left off, almost a year into the marriage of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. All the characters are present, those loveable and not so loveable, making the Darcy’s first two years of marriage an intriguing affair. This novel stands quite well on its own merits, as I have not read the previous two Lathan novels, however knowledge of Pride and Prejudice is required to understand the subtle undercurrents of the numerous relationships.

The novel centers on the upcoming birth of the Darcy’s first child adding in some delightful exploits and a few unexpected twists. Most noted is the deep-seated adoration and unflinching love Mr. Darcy and Lizzy have for each other. While the moments are touching I found the more subtle romance of Jane Austen’s novel to be more comfortable for me. Placing my prejudices aside, Lathan’s novel is exquisitely told with a brilliant flourish of language and so rich in detail, that one would be hard pressed to set this novel down. My Dearest Mr. Darcy makes for a fabulous afternoon of reading.

Wonder what happened after the Darcys’ wed? My Dearest Mr Darcy will answer that and delight fans everywhere.

Welcome  back to the world of  the Darcys; much has changed since Darcy and Elizabeth celebrated their union. Elizabeth is expecting and Darcy is even more in love with Elizabeth.  As they set out for a new adventure that has it’s own share of complications, the story grasps at your heart-strings, waiting to see what happens next.

With correspondence running  rapid through the story you get a peek into the lives of the Bennets, Collins, and more to see how life has treated them. Of course Elizabeth is still head strong and Darcy lights up the pages as usual.  I thought this was an endearing continuation of an already timeless classic. Must read for fans of Pride and Prejudice.

If you enjoy novels that extrapolate on the love story of Lizzie Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy and Sharon Lathan’s books, My Dearest Mr. Darcy will surely entertain. I enjoyed this the most because in My Dearest Mr. Darcy, Lathan tells the story partly from Dr. George Darcy’s point of view. Dr. George Darcy is Fitzwilliam’s uncle who lived and worked in India for years and as he writes to Jharna, his love, about his impressions of England and his family during this first visit in decades, Dr. Darcy brings a lively and interesting perspective. I enjoyed reading Dr. Darcy’s observations of how Fitzwilliam Darcy had changed and his view on the relationship between Lizzie and Darcy.

I don’t want to give anything away, but the other passages that I enjoyed involved (1) a snob who is finally put in her place and is made speechless and (2) the comeuppance of a lady who oversteps. If you want a quiet escape into the period and people of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, you may want to give My Dearest Mr. Darcy a try.

Sharon’s stories are fun forays into Regency England with one of the most famous couples in Romance. You’re immersed in the world of the time and living with the Darcy’s. Most of the conflict is the natural inner conflict of two adults adjusting to being married. Add a dab of family issues, problems with friends, a couple of scoops of adventure, and you have the life of the Darcys, Lathan style.

Lizzy is feisty, which she would need to be with a man of Darcy’s character. Lizzy is not a modern woman of our time dressed in costume, spouting Regency dialog, as is the case with many historicals today. Elizabeth Bennet Darcy is written as a woman of the era, yet she is still a strong woman. She has a great sense of humor (which we do pick up a bit from Austen’s original story), she makes me smile and laugh. I admire her strong streak of loyalty and love for her family and her friends—and of course a deep love for Darcy.

What I like is the depth Sharon brings to Darcy. In Austen’s stories, Darcy is almost two dimensional… in Sharon’s stories we catch a glimpse of what’s under the surface of the reserve and we see his heart. Most definitely three-dimensional character with a deep love of family and a very strong streak of responsibility for those he considers his. Overall, the Darcy Saga is a beautiful example of Happy Ever After.

Elizabeth, Mistress of Pemberley, and her husband Darcy are so happy to be together. Their life as man and wife could not be happier. When they have their first child, they find that their love for each other grows even more. Taking trips and celebrating life together, these two have a precious love that readers everywhere will envy.

I used to hate romance books. I thought that I just wasn’t a fan of the mooshy stuff, but come to find out, I hated them because I wanted a love like that and I was convinced that was only possible in fiction. Then, I got together with my husband and I learned that true love isn’t fiction and that it is the best emotion in the universe. Now, with my blindness removed, I am able to fully enjoy books like this one.

Sometimes I wonder just how many stories can be written about the Darcys, but obviously they are limitless and I never seem to tire of them!

My Dearest Mr. Darcy picks up where Loving Mr. Darcy ends. Elizabeth and Darcy become more and more in love with each other as each day passes. This is one of the things that I really like about Lathan’s writings.  Love conquers all. For all their wealth and prestige, Elizabeth and her dashing husband take delight in the simplest of things and thrill in each others joy. Fitzwilliam sees so many familiar things anew, through his adoring wife’s eyes: Lizzy’s first bare footed walk in the sand along the ocean’s shore… her surprising enjoyment of horse racing (and the betting too)… the ever-growing relationship of Elizabeth and Georgiana. Lizzy never stops being astounded by her husband’s dashing looks, his widespread knowledge of everything imaginable, his tenderness, and adoration of those he loves. Add in their travels, extended families, and the addition to their household, makes My Dearest Mr. Darcy another fantastic addition to any Austen Lovers Library!

Once again we find our lovers in the throes of what else but love. However; I think this novel may be my favorite so far because it shows so much more than their love.

My Dearest Mr. Darcy is packed with love, histories behind beloved characters and even some scandals to boot. I couldn’t help but once again fall right back into Pemberley and become part of the family once more. I believe it’s the author’s writing style but you feel a sense of belonging to the Darcy’s world that I haven’t experienced in other Pride and Prejudice sequels. And once again I give a great deal of credit to the strong characters who by themselves could stand alone and are furthermore enhanced through Lathan’s third book. I truly relished the emergence of George as a main character. He adds life and knowledge to the novel. Not to mention he’s a little bit of a comedian and I couldn’t help but smile if he were on the page I was reading. Confession time: I think although I love Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam; George is my new favorite and I wish he were my uncle!

I’ve enjoyed my time with the Darcy’s through the authors eyes immensely. It seems sad to know I have to wait for the next book to be released. This trilogy made me remember the first time I read Pride and Prejudice and renewed my love for all things Darcy. And I really enjoyed the way the author keeps the books authentic and realistic. She truly does a magnificent job capturing Austen’s beloved characters and I can’t wait to read what’s next for my favorite couple!
