Happy Birthday Jane Austen!

Today is Jane Austen’s birthday and blogs all over the web are in celebration. An extravaganza of Austenesque giveaways, birthday wishes and gifts to Jane, and classic Regency fun is ongoing and ALL of you are invited! Hosted by Maria Grazia of My Jane Austen Book Club and Katherine Cox of November’s Autumn, 30+ bloggers who adore Jane have banded together to throw the party of a lifetime. Each blogger will have a special gift for Jane or Happy Birthday wish as well as a gift for a lucky guest. That is over 30 chances to win something amazing! First allow me to share my special gift to Jane with you, and then be sure to read on for the list of other party blogs.

In searching my mind for something special to gift to Jane for her birthday I enlisted the assistance of Lord and Lady Nell. What better way to show appreciation and delight a recipient than to serenade them with a song written just for them? Of course I could imagine no one better suited to the task than the former Georgiana Darcy and her husband, Sebastian, renowned composers of extraordinary classical music for the pianoforte and orchestral instruments. Conscripted to compose a sonata for Miss Austen, the Butlers opted for a simple tune befitting the birthday lady rather than a grand opera. I have added the modern trappings of video enhancement. I hope Miss Austen, and all of you, enjoy listening to Lord and Lady Nell playing their newest composition.

Now that you have enjoyed Jane’s gift, my gift to you is a signed copy of Miss Darcy Falls in Love with my bookmark and an Austen Authors bookmark. Enter via the Rafflecopter form below. The winner will be chosen on December 23 and I will notify via email. When you are done here be sure to scroll through the list below and visit the other generous bloggers to see how they are celebrating Jane’s special day.

  3. Aww! What a beautiful way to wish Ms. Austen a happy birthday! She has truly inspired beauty in our world:)

I wish I could’ve entered this giveaway, that’s how great it is!

    Happy holidays!

  4. I am a tad late to the party but Happy Birthday Jane! A musical gift from Georgiana and Sebastian is a wonderful idea, I’m sure she’d love it.

  5. Having just reread Sense and Sensibility, I am in awe of how Jane Austen mixed a prose style unmatched in all literature, an understanding of people and relationships that goes far beyond my own comprehension – yet she lays it out for even the most clueless, such as I, a moral core of impeccable fiber, a sense of humor honed on the knife edge of injustice and fury, and a compassion as deep as her anger.

  6. What I love about P&P is how Lizzy is coming to terms with her family complications, her friend’s choices, and her own misguided prejudices as she discovers what (and even who) she wants out of life. It is a very contemporary theme.

  7. Happy Holidays, Sharon! What don’t I love about Jane? She was innovative, a trailblazer, and she gave a voice, not only to wonderful characters, but to future writers who would have a lot to say on the subject themselves! All I can say to that is THANK YOU, JANE!!

  8. Wonderful! Happy birthday to a woman, greatest author of all time! That has had such a profound effect on my teen and adult life! The most important aspect being that I have had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with my newest fav author Sharon!!
Sharon, Jane would love all of your wonderful books and this beautiful tribute from Georgiana and Sebastian.

  9. I love Jane Austen’s books because they taught me to laugh at myself yet never fail to leave me feeling wiser than before I read them.

  10. It is difficult to find a gift for a woman that enriched our lives and given us books that we can read over and over again. There is no doubt I would give her copies of your collection as I believe she would fall in love with where you Sharon have taken the book. While you are ahead of her time, I think you are simply writing what she only wishes she could have written…

  11. This is such a great way to celebrate Jane Austen’s birthday. I had no idea there were so many Ausenesque works out there. I will have to get busy reading! Thanks.

  12. What a lovely gift! If I had to choose something to give to Jane…hmmm…maybe a copy of some of the more recent re-writings of her work. Like the ones with zombies, etc. I think she would enjoy the humor in them.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  13. Dear Sharon!

These are indeed very impressive Birthday celebrations!
I think Jane Austen would love it a lot!
This is a chance to say Happy Birthday and thank you for being such a great writer!
