I re-read two books every year. One of them is Pride and Prejudice, which I re-read every May for my birthday. The other is Dracula by Bram Stoker, which I re-read every October. (Time to get it out for Halloween.) Even though Dracula is later than this era, it is still a great Gothic romance- and genuinely scary in places. I have not read the ones mentioned in Northanger Abbey, but they’re on my list. Sheridan LeFanu is also wonderful. If you want to watch the best version of Dracula ever, catch the one called Count Dracula with Louis Jourdan as Dracula. He is absolutely wonderful- and sooo sexy as the fanged seducer. It is a video that is so hard to find that I ordered two copies when I found it. It was originally shown on Masterpiece Theatre umpteen years ago.

I’m with Georgia – Not overly fond of dark. Interesting history though…I find the concept of Gothic architecture as barbaric fascinating.
